Classes are taught at the Animal Barn in Mobile AL. Pre – Registration through the Animal Barn/Pet Paradise for desired class is strongly recommended to hold your slot in class. Class sizes are limited. Applications and waivers can be downloaded from
LOFDT website or the Animal Barn website.
Classes are scheduled September through June. The summer months are just way too hot to train.
Obedience Classes Offered
Basic Pet Obedience Using reward based training, owners will learn ways to teach their dogs to; pay attention, come when called, walk on a loose leash, introduction to heeling, leave something alone, drop something out of their mouth, sit, down, and work on understanding of stay. Basic grooming skills will be talked about in class.
Canine Good Citizen Preparation/Obedience Through games and rewards, owners will learn how to train more formal obedience skills such as heeling and stays. This class will incorporate skills required for Rally Obedience, CGC evaluation and pet therapy. Basic Obedience skills are a pre requisite. Shaping behavior is encouraged.
Trick Classes Through games and rewards, owners will learn how to teach fun tricks. Many of the tricks double as physical fitness exercises, conditioning exercises and agility foundation skills. Others are just for fun. These tricks can be used for AKC CGC Trick Dog Titles. Shaping behavior is strongly encouraged.

Class Application Class Waiver ITEMS NEEDED FOR ALL CLASSES:- Praise for your dog
- Flat or rolled buckle collar
- A 4 to 6 foot nylon or leather leash. NO chain or Flexi leashes please.
- Favorite toy(s).
- Treats – small, bite sized. “Special” treats such as string cheese, hot dogs, or your dinner on class night.
- Water for Dog and Handler.
- A HUNGRY DOG. Please do not feed your dog before class, especially if he/she is not very food motivated.
- Imagination and willingness to HAVE FUN!
